Radio news: Radio Algeria launches new youth station
Radio Algeria recently launched a new youth station.  Jil FM started broadcasting at 09:00 on Sunday 15 January on 94.7 FM, in the centre and centre-south, on 531Khz MW in the east and south-east and on 549 kHz MW in the west and south-west regions of the country.

Media safety: EBU condemns the killing of France 2 journalist in Syria
French journalist Gilles Jacquier was killed when a rocket exploded during a demonstration near a hospital in the city of Homs, 162 kilometres north of Damascus, in Western Syria.

2011 New Talent Competition

Sports Rights: EBU and Austrian Ski Association agree worldwide media rights to ÖSV Skiing World Cups

The Austrian Ski Federation (ÖSV) has selected the European Broadcasting Union as exclusive media partner for its World Cup events in Austria. The new agreement covers all FIS World Cup Ski competitions hosted in Austria, starting from the 2011/12 season: Alpine, Nordic, Ski Jumping, Nordic Combined, Snowboard and Freestyle.

Estonian PSB calls on EBU Members to support the "World Clean-Up 2012" campaign
In 2008 Estonian Public Broadcaster (ERR) supported a massive clean-up campaign in Estonia by introducing the project into their programmes, where 50,000 people gathered and lifted 10,000 tons of illegal garbage from roads, forests and towns in just 5 hours. Journalist safety: News organisations demand global action to stop killing of journalists
More than 400 representatives of global news organisations recently issued a call for global action to halt the killing of journalists. The motion, proposed by the International News Safety Institute and supported by the EBU which runs News Xchange, noted that more than 1,100 news media staff have been killed in the past 10 years.
